Quosatana Campground

Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest

Resting along the Rogue.

In a state that boasts some of the most scenic natural places anywhere in the country, it’s no wonder that Oregonians like to camp. We like to escape the crazy of everyday life, breathe in the fresh air, smell the trees or ocean, and remember why we love living in this state.

A great weekend camping adventure can be found at Quosatana Campground right on the Rogue River in Siskiyou National Forest. When I say right on the river I mean it. Many of the 43 campsites are just yards from the roaring Rogue. Although this spot, nestled on a river bar, is more gentle lapping than roaring.

The campground is densely forested so you’ll hardly know you have others camping nearby and the trees attract eagles and osprey, as well as deer.

While racing the rapids may not be possible right here, the river offers plenty of opportunity for boating, fishing, or just floating along soaking up the sun.

The river isn’t the only draw. The campground is densely forested so you’ll hardly know you have others camping nearby and the trees attract eagles and osprey, as well as deer. Bring binoculars to get close-up views of birds catching and eating their lunch.

Because trees, while nice, can block the amazing night sky that shines brightly with no ground light to interfere, the campground also has 7 acres of meadow. It’s mowed regularly so is a perfect spot to put down a blanket, stretch out, and star gaze.

Hiking

There are two short hikes nearby. One takes you through old-growth forests and some of the largest hardwoods in the state. The other has you climb up a hill through switchbacks (but it’s VERY short) to take a peek at the world’s largest Myrtle tree. The tree base is 13 feet!

Rafting

If you’re feeling more adventurous there is the opportunity for jet boating nearby or more intense rafting. The campground is also just 14 miles from Gold Beach where you can stock up or enjoy a dinner out if the fisherman in your group fails to bring home dinner.

Quosatana is a perfect location for a quick weekend getaway or a spot to stop if you’re taking a full-blown vacation to explore Oregon’s coast.
