Summer in Portland is glorious. Portlanders patiently wait for it every year and once it hits, we’re outside squeezing in all the outdoor events, festivals, barbeques, hikes, camping, bike rides, and road trips we can possibly manage.
This month we thought we’d highlight fun, outdoor activities families can enjoy together this summer.
If you’re a Portlander, your car probably gets a lot of use throughout the summer. Like cold weather, heat also impacts automobile performance. The hot, dry weather affects your battery, tires, fluid levels, windshield wipers, and adds obvious strain on your air conditioning and cooling systems. If you haven’t already scheduled service or a tune-up for your car or hybrid vehicle, give us a call or request an appointment online.
Get The Family Involved In Car Care!
In the old days, a nice day meant an opportunity to get your hands greasy working on the car. In fact the owner’s manual used to encourage car owners to take pride in maintenance and play an active part in car care.
Families may not work on the mechanics of a car like they used to (except the LaPlante family, of course -- we do it every day!), but there are still several things car owners should be doing to protect their investment.
Let’s face it -- kids are very likely responsible for some of the mess-making that takes place inside your car. They’ll also probably want a car of their own one day. Both of these are good reasons to bring the family outside and get them involved in regular car care. Teaching your children about proper car care and maintenance prepares them for car ownership, helps keep your family vehicle looking and performing its best, and improves its resale value.
You can teach kids how to:
Check tire pressure
Check the oil
Test that the lights and signals are working
Check to be sure the windshield wiper blades are functioning properly (especially here in Portland)
Change a tire (if they’re a teenager)
And of course, have some good, clean fun washing the car together. Nothing says summer like soaking your family with the garden hose while getting your car clean.
